Alan Daniel “Dan” Robinson, 60, of Halifax passed away suddenly Feb 25, 2023. Dan was born to Pat (nee Harrison) Robinson and Allen Robinson and grew up in Fairview. He attended St. Agnes School from Grade Primary through Grade 9 and graduated from Halifax West High School in 1981. After completing the Carpentry Program at Halifax Vocational School, Dan became a red seal carpenter. Dan had very fond memories of working with his father at his part time job in Junior High and High School.
He met Katherine Brown in Grade 11 and they went on to marry and raise their family together. When their children Alan, Sarah-Lynn and Scott were born, Dan made the commitment to stay home to look after the kids and continued in this role for 14 years. This was a role at which he excelled. Every day was spent doing crafts, outings, or baking. He was 100% committed to Katherine and their children and to being the stay-home Dad as they went through school. He unequivocally supported her in her career.
Dan was also active in the community. He was “Rusty” in the Beaver Program and went on to run the local scouting program for several years. He was a member of Hope United Church and served on both the Board of Trustees and the Mission and Outreach Program. Dan was invested in helping those less fortunate and made meals for Hope Cottage and Turning Point Center for Men. He worked at the Breakfast Program at Westmount Elementary for many years.
In his spare time Dan enjoyed running,TaeKwonDo and working out. Katherine and Dan went camping every summer of their marriage. He took guitar lessons as an adult and enjoyed playing his guitar and ukulele. He spent a lot of time in his shop doing woodworking or making toys for his children and then grandchildren. Dan was the family handy-man, and was quick to offer to help when anyone needed something - a drive, his tools, his skills or his time.
He saw his biggest achievement as the magnificent cottage he designed and built in Chester Grant. It is a testament to his skills as a carpenter. He was so happy when the grandchildren started to arrive and began to enjoy the cottage.
Dan was predeceased by his parents Pat and Allen Robinson and his sister Danette Robinson. Dan is survived by his wife Katherine (nee Brown), children Alan (Callee) Robinson and their children AJ and Watson, Sarah-Lynn (Trent) MacKenzie and their children Clifford, Grant and Mabel, and Scott (Chelsea) Robinson and their son Carter. He is also survived by his sisters Karen (Ed) Kosendowski, Mary (Steve) Lawson and family friend Eric Gignac.
Mental illness took a huge toll on Dan and was a source of great pain for him and those who loved him. He worked very hard to be better. We wish him peace.
