The family of Charles (Charlie) Albert Fletcher Lane of Halifax is saddened to announce his passing on August 31, 2021 at the age of 86 years following a lengthy battle with Alzheimer’s. His family was at his side. He was the son of the late John Hamilton (Hammy) and Marjorie Lane.
Charlie was born February 14th 1935, he lived, was educated and worked in Halifax all of his life. After High School and Vocational School he started a career in Engineering – Drafting Technology with Karl Whitman, then with Whitman Benn Engineering. After many years he changed careers and attended Teachers College and taught at the Nova Scotia Community College until his retirement in 2001. Charlie was passionate about fishing with friends, curling at CFB Halifax Curling Club and wood working. Many kilometres were logged driving around the Maritimes in his Triumph Spitfire with Joan and the BATANS Car Club, especially enjoying the trips to PEI.
Charlie spent many years as a member of St Andrews United Church Halifax and served as an Elder and spent many hours on the restoration of the church bell.
Charlie will be lovingly remembered by his wife, of 59 years Joan (Bent) Lane of West Paradise; his children: Elizabeth and Kenneth (Linda), grandchildren Megan and Aaron; his sister Marjorie (Lane) Pirie and husband Walter, nieces and nephews, as well as numerous relatives and friends.
He was predeceased by his brother, John (Jack) Lane his wife Yvette; and his sister Carol (Lane) Mussleman.
A celebration of life will be held at Cruikshank’s Funeral Home on Saturday 11th September at 1 p.m., located at 2666 Windsor St, Halifax NS. Please note due to Covid 19 restrictions it would be greatly appreciated, if you plan on attending, that you call the Funeral Home by 4pm on 10th September to register.
In lieu of flowers, Memorial Donations may be made in Charlie Lane’s name to ‘The Alzheimer’s Society of Nova Scotia’, at alzheimer.ca or a Charity of your choice.
The family wishes to send a special thank you to the staff at the QEII Hospital, especially the staff of Inpatients 8.3 for their care and compassion.
