Lovingly known to all as “Betty”, she was born on July 8th, 1937 in Kingsclear, NB; the daughter of John and Inez (Key) Bamford.
Coming from humble beginnings she was educated in a one room schoolhouse which made her value the importance of education even more. One of her greatest sources of pride was nurturing 3 well-educated boys.
As a young adult, she moved to Halifax to attend secretarial college where she met her future husband of 33 years, Dr Terrence Ingham. Together they raised their family on Balmoral Rd – a place they called home for over 50 years.
Betty’s hobbies were painting, gardening and reading. She took great pride in her tulips in spring, marigolds, snapdragons and roses in summer and arranging her mums in the fall. Gardening and flowers were a perennial source of joy for her, and she was always eager to share her knowledge with anyone who was interested.
She was also an exceptional artist. Painting landscapes was her specialty. She took many classes over the years but enjoyed painting most when alongside her best friend and neighbour Naomi Judah.
Another big part of Betty’s life was the church. She has been a member of the congregation of St Matthias church and more recently the Anglican Church of Apostles for many years where she spent countless hours volunteering her time. After her husband Terry’s death, she immersed herself in giving to the church by organizing church dinners as well as baking and working at bake sales. People stood in line to get one of her famous apple pies, pound cakes or pan rolls. She enjoyed driving elders to medical appointments and helping them in their homes. One of her favourite past times was sharing a cup of tea or two while chatting with friends and family.
Aside from her parents, Betty was predeceased by her husband Terry; her brothers Jarvis, Percy, Bill, Derek (in infancy); sister Kay; and grandson Jeremy. She is survived by her sisters Bessie and Carol; sons David (Jennifer – Wolfville), Kevin (Heather – Moncton), Andrew (Cindy – Halifax); and 6 grandchildren Matthew, Allison, Brian, Ryan, Alexander and Harrison.
The family would like to give special thanks to the Berkeley for taking exceptional care and showing kindness and compassion to Betty over the past few years.
