Barbara Mary Ryan

Barbara Mary(Power)Ryan age 81 of Parkland Estates, Halifax NS passed away June 30, 2010 at the Palliative Care Unit QEII Hospital, Halifax NS. Born in Halifax NS she was the daughter of George William Power and Annie Christina(Houlihan). During her working life Barbara was a secretary employed at Royal Securities, radio station CJCH, radio station CHSJ(St. John)and Sears Ltd. She was a 37 year member of the CWL at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church. In her earlier years, she had been a member of St. Joseph’s CYO where she performed in the lead role of the play “Peg of My Heart”. It was there that she met her future husband, Joe. She is survived by her husband Joseph Patrick Ryan(almost 60 years), son Richard Joseph(Sherry Hynes) Middleton NS, sister Nancy Greene, Dartmouth NS, sister-in-law Marguerite Ryan, Dartmouth NS, brother James Power(Halifax NS), brother-in-law William Kiley, Dartmouth NS, grandsons Daniel(Halifax) and Michael(Edmonton Alta), step-grandson Nicholas Hynes, Halifax NS and several nieces and nephews across Canada. She will be sadly missed by many. She was predeceased by her parents as well as brothers, George, Eric Terence, Paul and Donald and sisters Margaret, Claire, Doris(Kiley) and Carolyn. Visitation will be held in JA Snow Funeral Home 339 Lacewood Dr, Hfx. NS 2-4 and 7-9 Fri. July 2, 2010. Mass of Christian Burial in St. Benedicts Church, Hfx on Sat. July 3, 2010 at 10 am. Rev. Thomas Maybe officiating. Cremation has taken place under the direction of JA Snow Funeral Home. Family flowers only. Donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or the Alzheimer’s Society. She passed away after a long courageous battle with cancer and alzheimers disease. Interment will be in the Gate of Heaven columbarium.
