ALLEN, Barbara June, 87, passed away at Parkland Clayton Park, Halifax, N.S. on Sunday, November 13, 2022. Born on March 18, 1935, in Halifax, Nova Scotia, she was the youngest daughter of the late William and Henrietta (Smicer) Bedley.
She is predeceased by Donald, her loving husband and soul mate of 59 years, and by their infant son David Arthur (1961), and by two brothers and a sister. She is survived by her only daughter Karen (Richard “Bee”) d’Entremont of Lower West Pubnico, Nova Scotia.
Barb, loving wife and mother and friend, always put the needs of others before her own. She was an avid reader and had a wonderful curiosity about the world. Her personal strength carried her through many challenges in her life. Her pride, courage and perseverance went beyond measure as she battled multiple health issues for much of her life.
Barb graduated from Miss Murphy’s Business College in 1953. She worked at R.W. Wright & Co. and Revenue Canada before marrying Don in 1958. Barb worked with Don throughout their lives, and they proudly established Arrow Delivery in 1971 and Scotia Courier in 1978. After retiring, Barb worked closely with her husband Don supporting veterans. She was secretary for The Royal Canadian Regiment, Nova Scotia Branch. She was bestowed a Certificate of Merit from The Royal Canadian Regiment Association in 2015. She also volunteered for The Korea Veterans Association of Canada, Unit 45 Halifax, which included the planning of their annual dinners at Royal Artillery Park, something she and Don enjoyed together.
I would like to thank the staff of Parkland Drummond Hall, 2nd floor. I am forever grateful for the care and support given to Barb during her time there. A special mention to Dr. Angela Morash for her compassionate demeanor and care while Barb resided at Drummond Hall. Also, a special mention to Dr. Eddy Kinley for his dedicated care over the years.
The acts of kindness and support from friends and family over the years, and especially during this difficult time, will never be forgotten. Barb will be sadly missed by those she has left behind.
Cremation has been entrusted to J.A. Snow Funeral Home, 339 Lacewood Drive, Halifax. Visitation at Snow’s will be Thursday, November 17th from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. At Barb’s request, a private interment at Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Lower Sackville, will follow at a later date.
