It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of A. Audrey Mitton in Halifax on October 8th, 2024 after a year long courageous battle with a rare form of cancer. She will be greatly missed by Lorne, her best friend and devoted husband of 58 years.
Born in Antigonish on May 16, 1939, the daughter of the late John Hadley MacDonald and Lillian (MacDougall) MacDonald Audrey was the last of a proud generation of the "Hadley MacDonald" family.
Audrey grew up in Antigonish and began her career with Scotiabank before moving to Halifax. It was at Scotiabank where she met her husband Lorne. Together, they spent most of their lives and careers in Ontario, building a beautiful life filled with love and adventure. Audrey and Lorne shared a passion for travel, exploring far-off destinations such as Europe, South America, Africa, and Asia, Hawaii, where they formed lasting friendships along the way. Their visits to Nova Scotia and New Brunswick were some of her most cherished memories spending time with family and friends. After retiring, she and Lorne relocated to Bobcaygeon, Ontario, and eventually returned to the Maritimes, settling in Halifax, Shediac and Pictou.
Audrey was a proud member of the MacDonald Clan "Ranald," cherishing her siblings deeply and always ready to support them. Their time together was filled with joy, laughter, storytelling, and bridge games - with family gatherings standing out as some of the most meaningful moments in her life. Audrey was an invaluable source of family history, effortlessly recalling the stories and connections that brought her loved ones closer and ensuring that their legacy would be preserved for generations to come. Her love for her family was evidenced in Audrey's remarkable ability to remember the names of all her 46 nieces and nephews, as well as their children.
Audrey was a devoted wife, daughter, sister, and aunt. She had a natural gift for connecting with people. Whether through a kind word, a listening ear, or a shared laugh, she had a talent for putting others at ease. She was deeply loved and will be profoundly missed.
