Sutherland, Aubrey - 90, passed away peacefully at home on April 25th, 2011, in Halifax, Nova Scotia. Born in New Glasgow, he was the son of Isaac and Jessie (Waugh) Sutherland. Aubrey married Phyllis (McRae), 66 years ago, and together they enjoyed a full life with family and friends while residing in New Glasgow, Marriott’s Cove, Chester Grant, and Halifax. Aubrey served in the Air Force during WWII and, before retirement, was a commercial representative for several furniture companies covering the Atlantic Provinces. Aubrey was an active member of St. John’s Anglican Church, Fairview. He was an active veteran and especially enjoyed talking to young people at local schools each year as Remembrance Day drew near.
He is survived by his wife, Phyllis, and daughters Barbara-Sue (Ronald) Bourne, Bible Hill and Sheila, Halifax; sons Richard (Sandra Chartrand), Toronto and Murray, Vancouver; grandchildren Robert and Terris Bourne, Halifax, Kerry Ann and Michael Sutherland, Toronto; and, great-granddaughter Alidah, Bedford. He was predeceased by sisters, Margaret (Estabrooks), Helen (Robert Lorimer); and brothers, Donald (Jean), Jack (Jean), Douglas (Jeanette). Cremation has taken place under the direction of J.A. Snow Funeral Home, 339 Lacewood Drive, Halifax, where visitation will be held 1 – 4 p.m. Sunday, May 1st.
