Anne Zita Chapman passed away on October 14, 2019 in Ivany Place, Bedford,NS at the age of 97. Born in the small Village of Sluice Point, Yarmouth Co, on October 22, 1921, she was the daughter of the late Bertha Emma (Babin) Bourque and Melbourne Bourque.
At the age of eighteen, Zita journeyed to Moncton, NB, to study Nursing at the Hotel Dieu, now known as the Dr. Georges Dumont Hospital, and graduated from there in 1942 with her Registered Nursing degree.
Her nursing career spanned forty years, beginning at the Royal Victoria in Montreal, PQ, The Victoria General, Northwood Manor, and for many years Zita was the Office Nurse for Dr. Bill McCrae in Halifax.
A devout Catholic all her life, she lived her long life well, was a lady of quiet dignity, and always willingly helped others in any circumstance required.
Zita was predeceased by her husband, Gordon Chapman; sisters, Rachael (Cottreau), Jeanette Bourque; a brother, Bruno (Juliette) Sluice Point. She is survived by her sisters, Rolande Hanga, Viola O'Connor ( John) of Halifax, and several nieces and nephews.
A Funeral Mass will be held on Thursday, Oct 17, 2019, at 10:30am in Saint Benedict Church.
