Alan George Daye, loving husband of 55 years to Ann Daye and father of two daughters and grandfather of two grandchildren passed away at the age of 79 in the early morning hours of July 2nd. Having moved to Bridgewater, Nova Scotia in September of 2023, his life was cut short by a diagnosis of late stage cancer.
Alan was born in Cornwall, Ontario having lived his early life in Milles Roches. In his late teens, his interest and love of music took him as far away as Boston where he learned the art of harpsichord and organ building. Returning to Montreal in mid-1960, he joined Casavant Freres where he worked as a pipe organ tuner excelling in his craft. For most of his life, he served in church music ministry enriching this service by his love and dedication to offering early choral music. He also sang with the Tudor Singers of Montreal, directed the Montreal Male Welsh Choir for a period of ten years and directed Octet Plus for many years. Later in life, he spent time installing Allen Organs in the Atlantic Provinces and in many rural communities in both Quebec and Ontario. His life was enriched by the many friends he made along the way having enjoyed hobbies such as model railroading, ship building and wood working - he was truly a man of many talents and gifts. His wit and humour and gift of story telling was appreciated by all who knew him. He will be sorely missed by his wife and family. There will be a commemorative service later on - any donation offered in his memory can be made to either the Canadian Cancer Society or an animal rescue of your choice.
