Bill was my Stamp mentor. He was a wonderful person and I enjoyed our phone visits. I’m so sad. 

The news of Bill's passing shocked me to the core. I have known him for several years now. Yes he was my dealer, but before he was my dealer, he was first my friend. He always took time from his busy schedule to first talk with me and ask what was going on in my family and then let me know what was going on in his. He would brag allot about Brad and Emily and send me links and pictures to keep me updated. He was so proud and I shared his enthusiasm because they were the genuine articles possessing the kind of talent our country so desperately needs in the younger generation.  We shared a common outlook of our world and had similar values. Only after we got caught up would we work our way around to business.  Some people aren’t meant to stay in your life, but that doesn’t mean they can’t stay with you. I will miss my friend. Our world is diminished without his presence. 

Bill and I never met.  But we communicated as client to dealer.  We sometimes set aside philately and talked about much wider issues and he always seemed to be a great libertarian and man for freedom and self expression.  I'm so very sad at Bill's early demise and wish the best to his family.  This memory is somewhat late as I live in the UK and have only just heard the news .


Bill and I grew up next to each other on Kilmer lane. Sorry to hear of his passing.   We would play football and baseball in the street all the time as kids.  May he Rest In Peace.  My condolences to his family.    The Hirsh s

A highly principled stamp dealer, Mr. Langs always gave the customer the benefit of the doubt.  He leaves a void in the stamp hobby that will be hard to fill.

Please accept my condolences on Bill's passing.  I've known Bill for several years at stanp shows.  He always conducted himself with integrity.  He will be missed. 

BILL IS ONE OF MY OLDEST  CLIENTS AND THE  WORLD  WON'T  BE THE SAME WITHOUT HIM IN IT.  BRAD  SO SORRY FOR YOUR LOSS.

I saw Bill and many, many shows over the years. He was always buying and selling, it was his passion for the hobby.  Once you got to know Bill you understood his desire and love for the hobby. I always enjoyed talking to Bill at the shows. I know he will be missed very much and it will be very difficult to fill that void without him any more. 

The stamp world will not be the same without Bill. I was able to acknowledge that today during our auction. He loved stamps and all that included, but he loved his son above all. I saw every picture and heard stories repeatedly.  I didn’t mind, because he he was soooo proud!  His eyes would light up.  He will be missed!

I was so sorry to learn of Bill’s passing, I send condolences to his son and niece and family. I have known him for over 40 years, did many stamp shows and considered him a friend. He will be missed by all. Sincerely, Barbara  Johnson (BJ)

Bill was one of the most knowledgeable philatelists that I have ever known. His passion for stamps was only exceeded by his passion for his son, Brad and his niece Emily. Brad was the apple of his eye and the first thing that he would talk about whenever we were together. He did everything in is power to see that Brad would have the opportunity to succeed, and produced an awesome result. 

Brad I am so sorry for your loss. However, I am sure that you have many wonderful memories of the time you and your father were together. Remember that those memories are yours forever.

Bill was always the last person I had to chase off the show floor because he was conducting business until the last minute. The reason for his was, because he enjoyed the hobby so much and he never wanted to leave. When I saw him, we always started our conversation about you and not stamps. He was a proud father, that I know for a fact. Brad, I am so sorry for your loss. Your father will be missed.

Thank you Lauren, for opening up the ceremony via Zoom.  I really appreciated the rabbi, who was very touching. Although I've never met any of Bill's family personally (other than Brad), we've known each other for more than 35 years, intersecting regularly through stamps., and I've heard about many members, as Bill was very proud of his family. He will be missed... Take care.

Bill was one of our contemporaries that will be missed, the first of our generation of professional philatelists to pass. 

Brad, he was so very proud of you it was always a big part of our conversations with him.

May you find  comfort and the peace  that passes all understanding.

Bill Langs was my friend.  
Bill was also the hardest working man in Philately.  

We enjoyed lunch or dinner 5 or 6 times each year while attending Stamp Shows.  Our discussion was always the same, I wanted to talk stamps and retail, Bill wanted to talk about how proud he was of Brad and politics.  Of course, Bill wanted to talk about whatever Dealer who had not done right by him, always ending by saying he understood the others point of view, but admonishing me never to share that with whoever was the topic of that day's discussion.  It was a testament to Bill's character that he always understood the big picture.  Bill believed not only in the value of long-term relationships, but also in the inevitable ebb and flow of relationships over time.  Bill always told me that organization was never one of his strong suits, once he invited me to see for myself and he gave me a rare tour of his offices in Oradell.  Bill was right.  

When the final bell rings for all of us, the two most important impressions we will leave behind are with our family and friends.  Brad and those of us who called Bill a friend are all so much better having known Bill.  

Rest in peace my friend.


Bill was always avid: whether buying or selling, playing or retelling stories, he was always all in.  Not to mention eating!
Bill was deeply knowledgeable about many fields, and eager to share his knowledge with friends and customers.  He was a major presence in the stamp world, and he will be missed.

While I have not seen or heard from Bill in many years, we used to regularly hang out at stamp shows, attend auctions together and go to the local race tracks quite often. We had many fun times and I will always keep those memories close to heart. We parted ways when I left the stamp business in the mid 80's and, unfortunately, never resumed our friendship when I got back into the business some years later. My deepest condolences go to those who knew and loved him best. I will always remember the fun times we had.

We were saddened to hear of Bill's passing. Joan and I have known him for almost 50 years. We first did business in the early/mid 1970's at stamp shows and he would come visit our store in Patchogue. While we have not done any significant business in many year, there would always be a friendly greeting when we met at coin shows in recent years. Bill would always inquire about our family and give us an update on his son's schooling and then his advancing military career. He will be remembered as a proud father.
