Samuel Perez Jr., age 47, a beloved resident of Beach Park, IL, passed away on Friday, August 25, 2023, surrounded by his loving family in his home. He was born on June 27, 1976, in Waukegan, IL, to Samuel and Amalia (Pizano) Perez Sr. Samuel. Affectionately known as "Sammy," he touched many lives in his local community through his influence in art and food. He leaves behind a legacy of love, passion, and creativity.
Sammy and Beatriz “Karla” Mendoza together shared a remarkable journey spanning 19 years, marked by unwavering companionship and devotion. Professionally, Sammy dedicated his time to Baxter Healthcare, where he was passionate about delivering his attention to detail to ensure quality was at the forefront of his work. He remained committed and loyal to his team until the very end.
Beyond his career, Sammy was a true culinary artist who found solace and joy in cooking. His culinary expertise led him to establish his own professional kitchen, "Don Sammy’s,” where he showcased his exceptional talents and shared his passion for food with others.
He was equally gifted as an artist, particularly excelling in what he referred to as "tattoo therapy." Sammy's unique artistic expression left a mark on the Lake County community, as he proudly tattooed countless individuals, leaving a lasting imprint on their lives.
Sammy is preceded in death by his paternal and maternal grandmothers, Esperanza and Eulojia, who undoubtedly shaped his life with their love and wisdom. He is survived by his loving parents, Samuel and Amalia, and leaves behind a profound legacy through his three children: Karina, Kiana, and Sammy Jr. Perez. His spirit lives on in his two cherished grandchildren, Santana and Aliyana.
Among his siblings, Sammy's memory will forever be treasured by his four brothers: Al (S/O: Francis Navarrete) Perez, Marcelo (Hazel) Perez, Martin (Evangelina) Zavala, and Cuco (Sara) Perez, as well as his three sisters: Maria (S/O: Rob Kluver) Perez, Minerva (Adam) Salinas, and Veronica (Gene) Bryant. Sammy's extended family includes numerous nieces- Yeni, Nia, Mikahla, Amalia. Nephews- Ito, Isaac, Gio, Jaris, Jude, Dominic, Xander and friends, all of whom were touched by his warmth and kindness.
A visitation in memory of Sammy will be held at the Marsh Funeral Home (305 N. Cemetery Road, Gurnee, IL 60031) on Thursday, August 31, 2023, from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 10:00 AM on Friday, September 1, 2023, at St. Brigid Parish – Church of St. Patrick (15000 West Wadsworth Road, Wadsworth, IL 60083), followed by interment at Ascension Catholic Cemetery in Libertyville.
Samuel Perez Jr. will forever be remembered for his vibrant spirit, his passion for culinary and artistic pursuits, and his deep love for his family and community. He leaves behind a legacy of creativity, compassion, and connection that will continue to inspire all those who were fortunate enough to know him.
