Art was born on August 28, 1939 to Wayne and Isabel Leeper of Chicago Illinois. He grew up in the Franklin Park neighborhood and graduated from Leyden High School in 1958. He married Diane Fox in 1962. divorced 1989). In January of 1963 Art received a degree from the DeVry Technical Institute and later that month enrolled for a six-year enlistment with the Air National Guard/US Air Force reserve serving as a radio technician. In 1971, Art graduated from Phoenix Police Academy and had a brief career as a patrol officer, before moving back to Illinois. At some point in the early 60’s Art began his career with Cherry Electric of Waukegan, starting on the assembly line and working his way up to Product Manager. He retired from Cherry after 30 years of employment with many memorable co-workers and experiences. Art was a member of the Waukegan Lions Club and enjoyed bowling, fishing, golf, and an occasional cruise. He also enjoyed watching the Chicago Cubs and Bears and was a lifetime fan of both teams. Art is preceded in death by his father-Wayne Arthur Leeper and mother-Isabel and brother-George. He is survived by his three children Craig (Lisa), Kevin (Eileen), and Becky and granddaughters Erika and Amy. To honor Art’s memory, we are holding a celebration of life on Sunday December 17, 2023 at Grandwood Park Community Center, 36630 N. Hutchins Rd. Gurnee IL, 60031 from 12-5 pm. We invite anyone who knew Art to attend and remember his wonderful life. We ask attendees to wear a Hawaiian shirt and/or Chicago Cubs cap, to honor his love of both.
