It is with great sadness that we announce that Andrei Sazonov passed away suddenly in Guelph, Ontario on Tuesday, May 16th, 2023. Andrei was a beloved partner to his spouse Ken Chow; a loving son to Yuri Sazonov (deceased) and Galina Sazonova (deceased) and stepson to Liudmila Bondarenko; a loving brother to Alexey Sazonov, a cousin to Tatiana Tsarveskaya, a stepbrother to Olha Bondarenko, a nephew to Valentyna Tsarveskaya and uncle to Margaret and Anne; and a great friend to many. It is shocking to think that Andrei’s generous and loving spirit is no longer with us. We will miss Andrei’s infectious smile and laughter but his generous and loving spirit will forever be in our hearts.
Andrei was born in Pskov, Russia on March 19, 1968 and received his education in Electrical Engineering, graduating from Moscow Institute of Electronic Technology with a PhD in 1997. He became Associate Professor in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of Waterloo in 2006 and was a frequent contributor to publications and to academic conferences in the area of nanotechnology and thin film materials. Andrei was an enthusiastic and diligent athlete and could be found regularly cross-country skiing on the streets of Guelph and playing tennis on the local courts. He was an avid follower of the ATP and WTA tennis tours and enjoyed taking part himself in recreational tournaments. He also loved getting together with friends and was a wonderful host and engaging guest at dinner tables throughout Toronto.
Family and friends will be welcome to attend a memorial service that will be held at Gilbert MacIntyre & Son Funeral Home, Hart Chapel, 1099 Gordon Street, Guelph, Ontario on Saturday, June 17, 2023 from 1:00PM to 4:00 PM
