Jack C. McMahon, 87, of Groves, Texas passed away on Friday, December 23, 2011 at Christus St. Mary’s hospital. He was born on May 22, 1924 to John E. McMahon and Charlie Hart in Calvert, Texas. Jack lived in the Groves area for most of his life. He served in the U. S. Navy during WWII as a hospital corpsman on the USS Terror in the Pacific.
Jack loved fishing, hunting, telling war stories and working in his yard tending to his vegetable garden each year and taking care of his roses. He retired from Texaco in 1984 from the compound department. He worked from the late 1950’s to early 1960’s as a reserve deputy for Jefferson County Sheriff’s Department. He also worked for Griffin Park Police Department.
Visitation will be on Monday, December 26, 2011 from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Clayton Thompson Funeral Home in Groves. Funeral service will be at 11:00 AM Monday, December 26, 2011 in the Thompson Memorial Chapel at Clayton Thompson with Rev. Jeff Bell, officiating. Interment will follow in Greenlawn Memorial Park in Groves.
He was preceded in death by his brother, John E. McMahon II, D.H. McMahon, sisters, Beth Reynolds, Aline Turner and Jessie Adams and a grandson, Stephen Chauvin Jr.
He is survived by his wife of 38 years, Evelyn McMahon of Groves, Texas, daughter, Barbara Chauvin and husband Steve of Groves, granddaughters, Nicole Chauvin-Alexander of Groves and Catherine Elizabeth Chauvin of Groves; brothers, Jerry McMahon of Kossee, Texas, Scottye McMahon of Crosby, Texas, Carlton McMahon of Cupertino, California; sisters, Rosie McMahon of Bremond, Texas, Mary Pittman of Judsonia, Arkansas and numerous nieces and nephews.
