Ronnie E. Keahey, 75, of Grove Hill, passed away December 25, 2017 at MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, Texas. He was born August 21, 1942 to George D. Keahey, Sr. and Katie Ford-Keahey. A practicing attorney for many years, he served in numerous capacities in the legal profession, including assistant district attorney, municipal judge in both Grove Hill and Jackson, a member of the Board of Bar Commissioners, and past president of the Circuit Bar and the County Bar Association. A member of Tompkins Baptist Church, he was an avid rabbit hunter and also enjoyed woodworking and knife making.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, George D. Keahey, Jr. and Dr. John R. Keahey.
He is survived by his wife, Lainie Keahey; children, Amy Keahey (Kent) Horton, Roni-Starr (Geneva Morgan) Keahey, George M. “Marc” (Lara) Keahey; grandchildren, Maggie Sgarlata, Bo Keahey, Harley Horton, Luke Horton, Gauge Horton, Cotton Keahey, Marc Keahey, II, Scarlette Keahey, Weezie Keahey and great-grandchildren, Lexi Kearley, Zella Sgarlata, Jace Sgarlata and Ashton Keahey.
Funeral services will be conducted Friday, December 29, 2017 at Tompkins Baptist Church in Grove Hill with Dr. Johnny Kendrick and Rev. Michael Perry officiating. Visitation will be Thursday, December 28, 2017 from 5-7 p.m. and Friday, December 29, 2017 from 10-11 a.m. at Tompkins Baptist Church. Interment will follow the service at Magnolia Lawn Cemetery in Grove Hill with Lathan Funeral Home directing.
Pallbearers will be Luke Horton, Gauge Horton, Marc Keahey II, David Keahey, Doug Bowling, Frank Noble, Spence Walker, Jami Dunigan.
Honorary pallbearers will be Elma Averett, Grady Bedwell, Joe Bedwell, Jay Duke, Ward Edge, Joshua Hayes, Bob Keahey, Keahey Law Office Staff, George McIntyre, Helen McRand, Earnest Paul, Francis Powell, Nelson Reynolds, Bookie Sheffield, Ray Sheffield, Gray Skipper, William Thrash, Annie Watkins and the First Judicial Circuit Bar Members.
