Michael L. “Mike” McVay, age 67, passed away on Thursday, April 18, 2024 at Mt. Carmel Grove City. He is preceded in death by his parents, Bill McVay Jr. and Helen Virginia McVay and Vickie McVay, his loving wife of 48 ½ years and they had been together for 51 years, they started out as high school sweethearts. He is also survived by his children, Mindy (Joe David) Wakefield, Michael L. (Misty) McVay Jr., Matthew (Stephanie) McVay Sr., Sarah McVay, grandchildren, Vanessa (Zach) Blazina, Jack Grant, Alysa Wakefield, Madison Grant, Joe D. Wakefield Jr., Taylor (Jeremy) McVay, Michael McVay III, Ricky McVay, Bryant, Riley, Matthew McVay Jr., Braden, Connor, Jessie, great grandchildren, Jason, Sophia, Weston, Wyatt, Wesley, LeeAnne, sister-in-law, Stacy Peters and sisters, Linda (Mike) Aronhalt, Barbara (Jimmy) Brooks-Bowden. After high school Mike enlisted in the Navy and served his Country faithfully for 17 years before retiring. He then went on to work at the United States Postal Service for over 20 years as a Mail Carrier, when things were tight he would work a second job at Hills Distribution or Simmons Mattress to make sure his family had all that they needed. He was a hardworking man who provided well for his family. When he was not working he enjoyed growing fantastic tomatoes and gorgeous roses, he really had a green thumb. His hands did not rest much as he was also able to work on cars and make them run like new again. Mike did have a lot of manuals for the vehicles his kids owned so he could fix them up right. When the grandchildren arrived he would spoil them with chocolate. He had a hard exterior and was really a big softy on the inside with a special sense of humor and could make people laugh. A visitation time will be held on Thursday, April 25, 2024 from 4-7 pm at SCHOEDINGER GROVE CITY 4242 Hoover Rd. (Hoover Rd. at Kingston Ave.) where his funeral service will be held on Friday, April 26, 2024 at 10 am with Mark Dettmer, Celebrant. Interment will be at Floral Hills Memory Gardens. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to either the Wounded Warrior Project or the American Heart Association.
