Mark Andrew Maiberger, 66, passed away peacefully on December 25, 2024, surrounded by his loving family. Born on January 30, 1958, to Patricia Ann Maiberger and Anthony Oscar Maiberger, Mark was a devoted husband, father, grandfather (Pap), and friend whose memory will be cherished by all who knew him.
Mark grew up in Columbus, Ohio, and earned his bachelor’s degree in Accounting from The Ohio State University. He began his career in the oil industry at Marathon Oil, which took him and his wife Lori to Findlay, Ohio for 25 years where they raised their daughter Megan. Later, they returned to Columbus as Mark finished his successful career in banking, retiring from Huntington National Bank in 2016.
Mark also made a difference beyond his career. He was an active participant in Pelotonia, raising funds for cancer research and eventually inspiring Megan to join him on the ride.
Mark’s passions included golfing, fishing, woodworking, and spending time with his granddaughters, Eva, Mia, and Clara. He had an infectious laugh and an extraordinary ability to explain complex ideas in simple terms. Known for his intelligence, level-headedness, and kindness, Mark left a profound impact on everyone he met.
His greatest joy was his family. Mark was a loving husband to Lori, a devoted father to Megan (husband Eric), and an adoring Pap to his three granddaughters. His legacy of putting family first and instilling life lessons will continue to shape generations to come.
Mark and his family are profoundly grateful for the care and compassion provided by his medical team at The Ohio State University James Cancer Hospital, led by Dr. Khan. The entire team went above and beyond to treat not just Mark’s illness but to care for him and his family as a whole. Their dedication and empathy were a great comfort during Mark’s journey.
A visitation will be held at Schoedinger Norris Grove City on Sunday, December 29, from 2 to 4 p.m., followed by a memorial service at 4 p.m. A private burial will take place at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to: MMMORE for Multiple Myeloma Research Fund (go to: give.osu.edu and use Fund No. 31343) or mail your gift to The Ohio State Foundation, University Square North, 14 E 15th Ave, Columbus, OH. Mark lived years beyond his initial diagnosis thanks to groundbreaking advancements, and the family hopes that continued research will save lives in the future.
