Marilyn Smith Johnson, 96, of Gahanna Ohio (formerly of Grove City Ohio,) passed away on January 16, 2024, peacefully in her home surrounded by her daughters. Marilyn was born on April 7, 1927 to Gladys and Dewey M. Flor in Akron, Ohio. After she graduated from Linden McKinley High School in 1945, she went on to earn her degree at White Cross Hospital School of Nursing; she was in the last class that was part of the Nurses Cadet Corp. That class graduated in 1948. Marilyn nursing career began in the operating room and continued throughout her life in many guises. Married to James W. Smith in 1948, she was widowed in 1975. In 2009 she married Arnold Johnson, M.D. and was widowed again in 2013. Marilyn is survived by three daughters: Polly Jan D’Eredita, Nancy Smith Miner, and Barbara Van de Castle. Her grandchildren are Jennifer Robison, James Young, Rebekah Smith, Eric Van de Castle, Audrey Van de Castle, Hannah Miner, Marilyn Miner, and Phebe Miner. She is also survived by 7 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great grandchildren. Marilyn enjoyed people, gardening, quilting. She was always involved in her community, whether through church or volunteering as a nurse. She was a voracious reader who was tech-savvy and enjoyed using technology to connect to people. She was predeceased by five siblings. Visiting hours will be held at Schoedinger Norris Funeral Home in Grove City, Ohio on January 19, 2024 from 2-4 PM and 6-8 PM.
