It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Susan Audrey Krachun (Howell) on June 14th, 2023 at the age of 62. Susie departed in Harper Woods at her home that she shared with her sister, Mary Ann Howell. Sue was born on March 31st, 1961 in Detroit, Michigan.
Sue was the third child of five. She grew up loving to go rollerskating with her sister Mary Ann and their closest friends. She also loved going sledding and ice skating at Balduck Park. She attended Sybil Beauty School when she was younger and was incredibly fond of doing hair. Sue was involved in every function that came about. She loved devoting her time to working with charities and soup kitchens. “No,” was not in her vocabulary. She would drop everything she was doing to help someone out even if it meant it would put her behind.
In her spare time, she loved making potholders. She would bring them with her to give out to people any chance she got. She wasn’t too interested in cooking, but she could make delicious banana bread. Sue was always inspired by reading. Her bookshelves are overflowing with books. She had great pleasure in shopping not only for herself, but for everyone in her life. She liked to randomly grab items that reminded her of someone that was to close her so she could give it to them at their next encounter.
She found her passion in working in Real Estate, which was a perfect job for her because she was able to form relationships and be the social butterfly that she loved to be. Sue was a beacon of light. She touched the lives of many. She always brought so much energy, kindness, and love to everyone she met. She couldn’t leave the house without bumping into someone she knew. She wanted to constantly give onto others, but rarely knew how to accept the favor in return. It is hard to express in words how loved she was by so many people. Her smile and laugh could light up an entire room. She loved cracking jokes every second she had an opportunity to. She was the type of person who always had to be on the go. She thrived when she was kept busy. She especially loved eating dinner with her sister Mary Ann and brother-in-law Joseph Houle.
Sue devoted her entire life to being the most loving mother to her son, Matthew Blancke. He was the center of her entire universe. She raised him as a single mom and everything that she did was to benefit his life. Not a day went by that she didn’t express and show her love to him. Matthew was Sue’s best friend. Sue also adored her niece Christine Houle and treated her as if she was her own daughter. Sue was there throughout all of Christine’s life and helped raise her. She was one of Christine’s biggest cheerleaders. Matthew and Christine were her ultimate priority and she would do anything to make their lives easier and happier.
Sue always put others before herself. She was a caregiver for her late father Bill Howell and her late sister Madeline Howell. She made sure that their end of lives was filled with compassion and tranquility.
Sue’s life ended too soon, but those that were touched by her know that she left an everlasting impression on everyone she met and she will live within us forever.
She is preceded in death by beloved husband Daniel Krachun, her mother and father Ann & Bill Howell, and her sister and brother Madeline & John Patrick Howell. Susan is survived by her son Matthew, her sister Mary Ann (Joseph Houle), her brother Billy Howell, her niece Christine (Phillip Zielman), her dearest & lifelong friends Mona and Matt Simoncini, and many more cherished friends.
