Rita Marie Jarvis

Rita Marie Jarvis, age 93, passed away on Wednesday, May 10, 2017 at St. John Hospital & Medical Center in Detroit. She was born August 18, 1923 in Detroit to Walter and Leona Mayday. Beloved wife of the late Walter. Loving mother of Walter(Victoria), Michael (Marie), Jennifer(John) DeHayes, Mary Jane (John) Shumaker, Luanne, and Teresa(Dean) Champane. Cherished grandmother of 18 grandchildren, Julie (Jeff) Perry, Stephen Jarvis, Jonathan (Kimberly) Jarvis, Amy (Aaron) Turner, Jay Michael (Jill) Jarvis, Jacquelyn (Ron) Borowski, the late Jamie Luch, Jamie's husband Tom Luch, Jill (Steve) Dely, Jennifer (Michael) Kitchen, John, Jr. (Jessica) Shumaker, Margaret Shumaker, Michelle Champane, Brooke Champane, James Champane, Bridgette Champane, Jacob Dietz, Kora Dietz, and Kelly Dietz. Great-grandmother of 20. Sister of Natalie Fox and the late Richard Mayday. Rita, a valiant woman, was a very active woman in her family, and her community. When not out on the golf course playing her favorite game, Rita enjoyed spending time with all of her family, especially her grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. The family enjoyed Sunday dinners together with some of Rita's best meals. Chicken & dumplings, pot roast, and deserts were some of her favorite dishes. While dinner was being prepared the family would certainly have their hands in the candy drawer. Rita's family describes her as witty, funny, and a wonderful story teller. She enjoyed walking, gardening and arranging flowers. She was fond of animals and especially all of the family dogs. When Rita wasn't with her family she would be found running the gift shop at Beaumont Nursing Center, where she truly enjoyed the Christmas Fair, and all the festivities. She enjoyed volunteering as the aquatic activity organizer for the pool at Woodbridge as well. In state 11:30 AM on Tuesday, May 16, 2017 at St. Paul on the Lake Catholic Church, 157 Lake Shore Drive, Grosse Pointe Farms, MI until time of funeral Mass 12:00 Noon.
