After a short illness, Philip D’Agostino, 100 years old, died on September 9 at St. John Hospital. Born in Detroit, MI on April 17, 1922 to Luigi and Maria (D’Annunzio) D’Agostino. He attended San Francisco grade school and graduated from Northeastern High School.
During the Second World War, Philip served in the Philippines, and later, in China as a Sargent in the Marines. After the war, he attended Laurence Institute of Technology where he graduated in 1949 with a BSME degree. Later, he earned his P.E. Phil then worked at Ford Motor Company. In 1970, he met his future wife, Colleen Tunney. They were married at Our Lady Queen of Peace Church in 1971.
In 1977, Phil took an early retirement. He could be seen on the golf course or bowling with the senior league, or at the bridge table, becoming a bronze life master. This time also saw him using his musical talent, playing the piano or his accordion. He and Colleen also traveled during this time with Elderhostel. Their travels included a visit to the family home in Villa Latina, Italy. A devout Catholic; Phil was also a Knight of Columbus for many years.
Phil is survived by his wife, Colleen and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Dominic (Rose) and Tony (Anna); sisters, Bertha (John), Jennie (Sam), and Theresa (Frank).
While at St. Johns Hospital, Phil received great care. We wanted to thank the Hospice teams, the very kind nurses at SICU, and those at 6-North. We also wanted to thank his home helpers, Marsha and Laura.
