Joan was born on November 3, 1928, to Francis and Martha (Meisen) Dalka in Detroit, MI. Joan graduated from Nativity High School in 1945 and she worked as a personal assistant at various locations.
In 1949, Joan met the love of her life Bernie (William) McNanney while working at the Packard plant in Detroit. Bernie and Joan went on to have six children whom she raised over 4 decades (6 if you count raising our dad) William, Sarah, Jane, Doug, Susan and Brian. They shared a beautiful life together raising their children and sharing life’s adventures for 59 years.
She was a mother and a friend to all; you immediately felt the attraction to her the moment you met because of her humble demure and her welcoming spirit. She was known by many of our friends and family’s member as the “favorite.” Her greatest strength has been patience, love and kindness often in various measures depending on the need.
She had the ability to adapt to life’s challenges continually and see the world with eyes open and a willingness to listen, but never failing to hold true to her core beliefs. She was a devout Roman Catholic and possessed a deep devotion to Blessed Mother.
She had great friendships that lasted for many years from her Nativity Woman’s Club of 1945. The strength of their bond was immeasurable, and they remained friends for many years even when life became challenging.
Joan was predeceased in death by her parents Francis and Martha (Meisen) Dalka. Her husband William Bernard, son William B, daughter Susan and grandson Jared Glenn. Her brothers and sister in-laws Gerald (Anne Marie), Paul, and Robert (Eileen).
She is survived by 4 of her children; Sarah McNanney, Jane Bunch (Brian), Doug McNanney, Brian (Christine) McNanney, sister-in-law Pat Dalka. She had 16 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchild whom she cherished and loved immensely.
