Deborah Jean Fisher was born in Detroit on February 20, 1956, the daughter of Charles and Faye Varner. Debbies father died when she was a very young girl and her mother raised four girls on her own: Nancy (deceased), Peggy, Debbie, and Joan. Debbie passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her loving husband and children. Debbie was a member of the class of 1974 at Grosse Pointe North High School . She always wanted to be a teacher and went to school to become one, graduating from Wayne State University with a Bachelors in Education in 1978. She then began working at St. Paul s Catholic School as an elementary school teacher. It was during her teaching years that she met her future husband, Charles J. Fisher, who loved her dearly for the entirety of their 36 years together. Debbie and Charlie were married on October 4, 1986 at St. Marys Catholic Church in downtown Detroit . After teaching for a number of years, she changed vocation and became a sales representative at Bristol Myers, where she enjoyed much success. She was very proud of her accomplishments at Bristol Myers, but when it was time for a family, she put all her energy and all of her talents into raising four wonderfully accomplished, artistic, and compassionate children: Leslie, Charles, Daniel, and Lindsay. Being a full-time mom and raising children was the true measure of her life; she excelled in this labor of love and placed this priority above all others. Once her children became self sufficient, she re-entered the workforce as a valued executive assistant to the owner of Rave Computer, a computer manufacturing company. Over the years Debbie excelled in many community endeavors. She was a catechism teacher at both St. Clare of Montefalco and St. Philomena, she served as the Chairman of the Grosse Pointe South Preservation Committee, and through Rave Computer was a member of "Women in Defense". She was an avid gardener and was extremely passionate about cooking - a passion also shared by her daughter Leslie. She loved her country and proudly supported the United States Navy. Her children are her proudest achievements. Leslie is a loving daughter, wonderful wife, and expert homemaker. Charles is a commissioned naval officer and will graduate from medical school in June; he will begin a general surgery residency this summer. Daniel is an active duty naval officer and helicopter pilot. Lindsay will graduate from the University of Michigan this April and intends to pursue dental school in 2018. Their success and happiness are a direct result of Charlies and her parenting. Debbie is survived by her beloved husband Charlie, her loving children Leslie (Mark) Grzanka, Charles, Daniel, and Lindsay; and her dear sisters Joan (Chuck) Pohl and Peggy Varner. Visitation for Debbie will take place on Friday from 3:00 pm until 9:00 pm with a Scripture Service at 7:00 pm at A. H. Peters Funeral Home, 20705 Mack Avenue at Vernier Road , Grosse Pointe Woods . Debbie will lie in state on Saturday from 9:30 am until time of Mass, 10:00 am, at St. Philomena Catholic Church, 4281 Marseilles , Detroit , MI 48224 .
