May 29, 1969 - April 27, 2023
Deborah “Debbie“ Simonds Albrecht, 53, of Grosse Pointe Shores, MI passed on April 27, 2023 at St. John Hospital surrounded by her loving family.
Debbie is preceded in death by her mother, Martha “Marty” Simonds. She is survived by her father, Richard “Rick” Simonds, and her brother, Smith “Adam” Simonds (Hilary). Debbie leaves behind her husband and loving partner of 27 years, Michael “Mike” Robert Albrecht, her three beautiful children Amanda Madeline Albrecht, Austin Richard Albrecht, and Connor Michael Albrecht and her pandemic Thanksgiving Day rescue dog Cisco. Her mother in-law Beverly “Bev” Albrecht and Richard “Dick” Albrecht. Sister in-law Pamela “Pam” Albrecht and brother in-law Richard “Rick” Albrecht. As well as her nieces and nephews Ryan, Jack, Kyra, Rachel, Payton, Brielle, Leah, Julia, Rich, and Casey.
Debbie was born in Detroit, MI and raised in East Lansing, MI. She graduated from East Lansing High School in 1987, where she played varsity tennis and was an active member of the Peoples Church Youth Group. Debbie graduated from Michigan State University in 1991 with a BA in Finance. While at Michigan State, Debbie was a proud member of the Alpha Gamma Delta sorority and taught tennis during the summer at the Michigan State University Summer Sports School.
After graduating from Michigan State University, Debbie returned to the Detroit area where she started a career in banking. It was during this time that she met Mike and knew she’d found a loving and devoted partner for life. Debbie and Mike were married on November 18th, 1995 and quickly laid down roots in St. Clair Shores, MI and eventually settled in Grosse Pointe Shores, MI to raise their family in the home that they shared for the last 23 years.
Debbie enjoyed boating (although maybe not quite as much as Mike). She enjoyed summer trips to the Simonds family condo in Glen Arbor, MI. The days spent with her family canoeing on the Crystal River, climbing the Sleeping Bear Dunes, dancing at Boonedocks and eating ice cream at the Pine Cone were among her favorites. With the sand between her toes on the shores of Lake Michigan, watching Mike and the kids splash around in the water was the true highlight of her summers. Debbie had a soft spot in her heart for animals, including a few family pets that showed up at home unbeknownst to the rest of the family. Like her mother, Debbie was a member of the BB chapter of P.E.O., a philanthropic organization where women celebrate the advancement and education of women. She continued to play tennis throughout her life and played in a women’s tennis league. Debbie was an avid reader and enjoyed her book club for the good reads as well as the socializing and friendships. She also took tremendous joy being a part of the “hockey moms” and “lacrosse moms” but most in being a “Ferry mom” because those friendships have endured the longest. Quick weekend getaways with her book club girls and “Ferry moms” were always something to look forward to.
Everyone who knew Debbie knows she was extremely devoted to her family, providing them with the warmest, kindest and most loving environment she could. Debbie was selfless and supported her children’s activities 24/7, which meant baseball games, hockey tournaments all over North America, gymnastics meets, lacrosse games and several trips to the American Girl store on Michigan Avenue in Chicago. There was never a family holiday gathering (Christmas Eve and Easter were among the favorites), birthday celebration, graduation ceremony, or anniversary that went by without her infectious smile lighting up the room.
In lieu of flowers, donations in the memory of Debbie Albrecht can be made to the breast cancer charity or foundation of your choice.
