A resident of Griffin, Georgia for 45 years, Warren is survived by his loving wife of 57 years Mary Olive Hasty Story. Sons & daughters-in-law; Warren III & Kim Story of Alpharetta, Ga., Franklin & Leigh Ann Story of Zebulon, Ga., Brent Story, of Atlanta, Ga., and Matthew Story, of Atlanta, Ga.; five grandchildren, Benjamin Story, Jesse Story, Meghan Story, Bethany Story, and Jack Story, brothers, Johnny Story and James Story, sisters, Dot Coker and JoAnne Oliver, as well as many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Warren Sr. and Anne Story; brother Dan Story and sister, Alice Story Avery.
Warren was born in Arabi, Georgia in 1932 and raised on the family farm with six siblings in the Bethel Community of southeast Turner County Georgia. Mr. Story enlisted in the US Navy in 1951 and served on the aircraft carrier USS WASP until 1955. He married his neighbor and high school sweetheart Mary, in 1954 in Sycamore, GA. He graduated Summa Cum Laude from the University of Georgia in 1962 where he earned the degree of Bachelor of Science in Agricultural Engineering. Warren served as the Physical Plant Engineer at the State of Georgia 4H Camp in Rock Eagle, Georgia until he and Mary moved to Griffin, Georgia in 1965 where he served as Physical Plant Manager at the University of Georgia Agricultural Experiment Station until his retirement in 1989. Mr. Story was also a Registered Land Surveyor in Georgia where he provided property boundary surveys for many clients and friends over a 30 year period. Mr. Story was a senior member of the Griffin Rotary Club for over 44 years where he was involved in two Rotary Foundations, Paul Harris Fellow and Will Watt Fellow. His family worshiped at the First United Methodist Church in Griffin.
The family will receive friends on Friday May 13 from 6:00 to 8:00pm at Haisten McCullough Funeral Home. A Funeral service celebrating Warren’s life will be held at the Griffin First United Methodist Church on Saturday, May 14 at 10:00 a.m. Interment will follow at the Prospect Methodist Cemetery on Sunday, May 15, 2011 at 3:00 p.m. in Sycamore, GA. Friends may visit the family at the Perry Funeral Chapel in Ashburn, GA from 1 – 2:30 p.m. on Sunday.
