Ronnie was born in Spalding County on December 18, 1937. He lived in Hampton, GA with his family before moving to Griffin in 1953. He was preceded in death by his parents, Dr. Amon L. (Doc) Cain and Malzie Lee Cain. Also preceding him in death was his wife of 33 years, Connie Doris Battle Cain.
Ronnie graduated from Griffin High School in 1954 and went on to attend the University of Georgia where he received his BBA in finance in 1961. He was the President of Delta Sigma Pi Fraternity, and a member of Omicron Delta Kappa and the Demosthenian Honor Societies. After graduating from Georgia, he returned to Griffin as a partner in Cain’s Furniture Store and Suburban L.P. Gas Company where he worked and later owned both companies. In 1975 he obtained his Real Estate License and bought and sold properties and land through Slade Realty.
Ronnie was a lifetime member and Director of the Griffin Exchange Club, sat on the Board of Directors of the Georgia Home Furnishings Association and served as President and longtime Director of the Griffin Credit Bureau. He was an officer of the Griffin Touchdown Club as well as a member of the Georgia Bulldog Club. Ronnie served six years in the Georgia National Guard and was a member of the National Rifle Association. He was a charter member of the Griffin Boat Club, a charter member of the Spalding County Sportsman Club, and a charter member of the Griffin Country Club where he remained a member for 37 years. Ronnie was a member of the Griffin Historical Society and the Griffin Humane Society. He was also a member of both Ducks and Quails Unlimited, and served on the Board of the Georgia Wildlife Association for ten years. His passions included hunting, fishing, golfing and football Saturdays between the Hedges.
Survivors include his daughter & son-in-law, Leigh Cain & Tony Striner; son & daughter-in-law, Sean & Kristi Cain, and grandchildren, Joe Striner, Milz Cain, and Caroline Cain. He is also survived by his longtime fiancé, Joy B. English as well as his extended family, Matt, Jenny Ava and Livi Parker.
Funeral services for Ronald (Ronnie) Spencer Cain will be held Monday, May 9, 2016 at 1:00 p.m. at the Griffin First Baptist Church. Rev. Dan Brown will officiate. A private burial will follow. Friends may visit the family Monday from 10 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to Athens Y Camp, 1000 Y Camp Rd., Tallulah Falls, GA 30573 in memory of Ronnie.
