Velma F. Smith passed away on April 12, 2022 after a brief illness. She was born March 3, 1933 in Hood River, OR, to the late George and Lily Perkins. She married Dale L. Smith December 6, 1952, shortly after Dale returned from serving in the Korean War.
Velma called her and Dale soulmates. The biggest part of Velma’s life was her relationship with her husband. Every night when Dale returned from work, he’d give Velma a hug and kiss first, then grab his beer. They were best friends and spent all their free time together. They both loved camping and fishing, spending many vacations at Lost Lake, OR, with their family. If the family wasn’t picnicking or going for long drives, they would be camping in the woods. This family tradition carries on through the next two generations. After retirement, Dale and Velma spent many winters camping in Yuma, AZ.
After raising her family, Velma worked at Columbia High School until her retirement. Velma made friends everywhere she went and will be missed by family, friends, and neighbors.
Velma was preceded in death by her husband Dale; sons Scott Smith and Greg Smith; brother Ray Perkins; sister Billie Doke; and grandson Aric Smith.
She is survived by children Garry Smith, Boring, OR; Chris Smith, Gresham, OR; grandchildren Joshua, Nathan, Emily and Rylin; and great-grandchildren Madilyn and Everleigh.
