Shirley was born on April 7, 1936 in Volin, South Dakota and was the daughter of Ray and Jessie (Johnson) Allison. In 1950, she moved to Gresham, Oregon where she graduated from Gresham High School in 1954. After graduation, Shirley worked for the phone company for a while and later became a surgical secretary at Gresham Hospital and Legacy Mount Hood Medical Center. She retired in 2001 after nearly 30 years of employment.
Shirley married Ronald G. Wohlschlegel on September 13, 1956 at the Gresham Baptist Church. They made their home in the Gresham Area where they raised their 5 daughters. Ronald preceded Shirley in death in 1994.
Shirley had many hobbies and pastimes. She enjoyed toll painting, sewing and reading. She also enjoyed her flower garden and thrived from being in the sun. Her greatest love however, was her family. She was a loving, giving, devoted mom and grandma that simply adored the time spent with her children and grandchildren. Shirley was also a breast cancer survivor since 2001. She was diagnosed with Alzheimer's in 2006. In March, 2010 her cancer returned. She fought a good fight, but lost the her battle in the end. She will be dearly missed.
Shirley is survived by her five daughters, Debbie Hoff of Eugene, OR, Wendy Wohlschlegel of Orlando, FL, Brenda Anderson of Gresham, Rhonda Hayward of Salem and Stacey Haney of Gresham, brothers, Clare Allison of California, Gene Allison of Sherwood, Robert Allison of Washington and Gary Allison of Gresham and sister Nancy Fleischer of Gresham along with 12 grandchildren, Jeremy, Joshua, Jarred, Dustin, Austin, Whitney, Brandon, Brittany, McKenzie, Cody, Blake and Reece and 1 great granddaughter, Lillian. Her husband Ronald and her brothers, Russell, Keith and Joe all preceded her in death.
A funeral service will be held on Friday, April 9, 2010 at 1:00 pm at Bateman Carroll Funeral Home in Gresham, Oregon. Visitation will be on Thursday, April 8, 2010 from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm also at Bateman Carroll. A committal service will be held at Forest Lawn Cemetery.
