When the war broke out three of her brothers enlisted in the armed forces; Harold in the Army and Bert and Adolph in the Marines. The family moved back to the Wellington area where Fred bought a farm and they farmed for three years. Ruth was employed for a time at the Northern Hotel in Fort Collins and then worked for the Mountain States Bell Telephone Company as an operator. August 2, 1947 she married Raymond A. Schwartz at the Zion Lutheran Church in Wellington Colorado. In November of 1947 the couple moved to Portland Oregon where Ray was employed in woodworking and Ruth was a fulltime homemaker caring for two sons, Steven Ray born in 1948 and Robert James (Jim) born in 1950. In 1951 Ruth and her family returned to Colorado where her husband attended Colorado A&M (now Colorado State University) and Ruth again worked for the telephone company. In 1954 the family moved to Pomona California. Two sons were born; Craig Leslie in 1954 and Bradley Lynn in 1957. In 1968 Ruth and her family moved to Portland Oregon. She worked for General Telephone, Jantzen Knitting Mills and the Multnomah County Education District before her retirement. Ruth had been a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church since 1968. Ruth and Ray retired in Gresham Oregon. They enjoyed travelling and spending time with their family.
