Lyman is survived by his wife, Carol; children, Jamie, Rebecca and Travis; and brother Neil. He is preceded in death by his daughter Sherry Ann and his sister Marlene.
He was born on May 5, 1947 in Portland, OR to William and Charlotte Southard. He married the love of his life and childhood tormentor, Carol Jean Williams, after serving in the Air Force during the Vietnam War. During their 50 years of marriage, the couple welcomed 4 children and 11 grandchildren into their home and set about teaching them how to work hard, help others, and have a sense of humor. His children and grandchildren remember him as a great man who loved the outdoors, wasn’t afraid to be goofy, and had a strong sense of right and wrong.
The original do-it-yourselfer, Lyman was capable of building or fixing anything. Even during his last days, he remained curious about how things worked- tinkering with the machines and gadgets around him. He was a great provider who loved to make people laugh and have lively discussions about a huge variety of topics. Through the years, he was an active and dedicated member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Gresham and readily shared his time and talents with anyone in need.
Due to COVID 19, his service will be limited to immediate family. They’d appreciate any remembrances and comments which can be shared at batemancarrollfunerals.com. The family would like to thank the Hospice Volunteers who helped them for their amazing support.
