In 1943 he graduated from Franklin High School. During World War II he was in the U.S. Army Infantry which included 20 months serving in the South Pacific where he was awarded the Purple Heart.
In 1950, he graduated from the University of Portland with a BA in Business Administration. While working at the Bank of California, he met and fell in love with Joan Harmon whom he married in 1952.
His banking career encompassed 35 years with the Bank of California (now known as The Union Bank) and an additional 7 years with various Christian organizations.
At the age of 40, he acknowledged his need for a relationship with Jesus which changed the direction of his life. It became very important for him to spread the good news of Jesus’ saving power so he invested heavily in supporting missions.
Mr. Wells was preceded in death by his wife Joan.
Survivors include his daughters Debby Dickman (Jim) and Susan Heath (Stanley) of Gresham, Oregon and Sandi Swanson (James) of Boring, Oregon, 9 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren.
Memorial service will be on Sunday, June 6, 2021 at 3:30 pm at Good Shepherd Community Church located at 28986 SE Haley Rd. in Boring, Oregon 97009. The service will be live streamed and the live streaming link is: http://memorial.gshep.us.
Private interment is at Willamette National Cemetery.
