Richard Clair “Dick” Vaughn, 90 of Gresham OR, passed away on Thursday, December 16, 2021. He was born on February 24, 1931 in Salem, Ohio to Stanley and Kathryn Vaughn. He graduated from High School in Akron, Ohio and served in the U.S. Air Force from 1951 to 1955. Dick married Shirley Irene Solum on July 21, 1967 in Portland, Oregon. He worked as an insurance agent for over 60 years in the Portland and Gresham areas.
Dick served his community with Toastmasters for over 60 years and with Kiwanis for almost 50 years. He started with the Gresham Kiwanis Club and originated the Gresham Early-Risers Kiwanis Club and continued with them for the duration of the club. During his Kiwanis time he served as Lieutenant Governor in the division four different times. He did stand-up comedy in his early years at the Silver Dollar and walked with a race-walking team doing several Portland to Coast races until he was 85. Dick loved golf and enjoyed water color painting.
Dick is survived by his wife of 54 years Shirley Vaughn of Gresham OR; daughters Andrea Vaughn of Vancouver WA and Rebecca Caniparoli (Darren) of Clackamas OR; son Brad Vaughn (Lori) of Estacada OR and grandchildren Lexi Vaughn, Haleigh Rabe, Courtney Caniparoli and Grayson Caniparoli. Dick was preceded in death by his sister Janet Vaughn.
A Celebration of Dick’s Life will be held at 1:00pm on Saturday, February 19, 2022 at Bateman Carroll Funeral Home, 520 W. Powell Blvd in Gresham, Oregon. Donations may be made to the Kiwanis Doernbecher Children’s Cancer Program at kiwanisdoernbecher.org or to Mt. Hood Kiwanis Camp at mhkc.org/donate as contributions in Dick’s name.
