Pat was born on March 17, 1935, in St Johns, North Dakota, to Luke and Helen O’Connor. She graduated in 1953 from Franklin High School in Portland, OR. On June 27, 1953, she married Robert (Bob) Thoensen. They lived in Portland before building a house and moving to Gresham, OR in 1960. Pat was a housewife and operated an in-home daycare for a few of the neighborhood kids, and worked at a local church day care, for many years before deciding to take classes at Mt Hood Community College as Medical Records Specialist. In 1995, Bob and Pat retired and moved to the Oregon Coast where they resided until moving to Vancouver, WA in 2021. During the winters, they enjoyed traveling in their motorhome to Arizona to visit with friends and other snowbirds, partaking in potlucks and social gatherings.
Pat enjoyed, entertaining playing Mexican train with friends and family. She enjoyed gardening and loved flowers. Bob built her a greenhouse at the coast so that she would be able to have a longer growing period for her flowers and garden. She was active in the local church in Nehalem, OR and volunteered at the local food bank and at church functions. She loved the holidays, especially Christmas and would always have to have the right decorations. She was truly Irish and loved her St Patrick’s Day celebration.
Pat is survived by her loving husband of 71 years, Bob; two daughters: Vicki Nelson of Oregon City, OR and Debra Kinney of Vancouver, WA and one son – Richard Thoensen of Aurora, CO; 11 grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren; her sister, Marilyn Rosebraugh of Pasadena, CA, nieces and nephews and other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother, Jerry O’Connor and a sister, Frances Leake.
The family would like to thank all the staff members of Cogir of Vancouver Assisted Living Facility, Legacy Salmon Creek Hospital and Ray Hickey Hospice House for their compassion and efforts in comforting mom and the family during this difficult time.
