February 09, 1927 to June 24, 2011
Marion E Treviso of Portland, Oregon passed away June 24, 2011. She was born February 09, 1927 in Chicago, Illinois to Nelson and Enid Kirkwood. Marion lived in Chicago until 1953 when she moved to Portland, Oregon. She attended Tully High School, where she graduated in 1946, and earned her Master’s Degree from Lake Forest College in Illinois.
On July 2, 1953, Marion married John Treviso in Chicago, IL and moved to Oregon on their honeymoon. Marion spent part of her career as a middle school teacher in Gresham and Milwaukie. She and her husband John opened Oregon City Caramel Corn shop in 1962, and later bought a second candy store, Milwaukie Products/Candy Land, in the mid 1970’s, which she retired from in 1990. Since 1988, she has been a member of the St. Aiden’s Episcopal Church, after transferring from St. Luke’s in Gresham where she was a member from 1953-1988.
She loved her friends, to bake, and play pinochle with her women’s group for over 50 years. She enjoyed numerous athletic activities, including ping-pong, swimming, skiing, hiking, and mountain climbing—she loved the beach, the Gorge, and the mountains. She climbed Mt. Hood in 1954. She was a fan of the Chicago Cubs, and traveled extensively with her husband. Together, and with friends, they took cruises to Hawaii, Mexico, the Panama Canal, and Alaska. They also traveled to Maui, Europe, China and Australia. Later in her life, Marion enjoyed being a grandmother, picking blueberries, volunteering at her church and Zarapath Kitchen, and was a member of the Daughters of the King. Marion never met a stranger; she made everyone feel special. Her family came first, and she loved to entertain them.
She is survived by her husband, John L Treviso; children and grandchildren Susan (Dan) (Justin of Seattle, and Danielle) Roisom of Wilsonville, Jean (Jeff) (Natalie and Garrett) Myers of Happy Valley, Kathleen (Les) (Brad, Emily, and Holly) Blakley of Spokane, John N (Margaret) (Amber Scott of Tucson, AZ, and Briana) Treviso of Las Vegas; her sisters Beryl Cook of Troutdale and Helen McNichols of Naperville, IL, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her son James (Jim) L. Treviso in 1991; and brothers, Bob and Nelson Kirkwood.
A celebration of Marion’s life will be held July 2, 2011 at St. Aidan’s Episcopal Church in Gresham. Contributions may be made in memory of Marion to St. Aidan’s Episcopal Church. Bateman Carroll Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.
