Karen was born in Emmett, Idaho, to Ken and Violet Cloninger. She moved to Caldwell when she graduated from High School, and she went on to attend Oregon State University for several semesters. She was the middle child of siblings Shirley Douglas and Jerry Cloninger.
She married Jerry Stanwood and had three children: Kristin Christensen (Paul), Trudy Lutu (Fanuae’e), and Jedd Stanwood (Loretta). In 1968 she married Curtis Miller and moved to Wood Village, Oregon. She and her husband owned and operated Miller Engineering.
She enjoyed spending her time in Sunriver at her cabin on the water and later at the Oasis Country Club in Palm Desert where she had an active social life. She was a member of the Putters Group and boasted of several holes-in-one. She loved a good laugh, her hydrangea plants, playing card games, visiting with her grandchildren, a 5 o’clock vodka tonic, getting thank you notes, and spoiling Tess, her grand dog.
A special thank you goes out to daughter Trudy who cared for her with warmth and compassion the last several years. She will be deeply missed by her children, sister Shan, five grandchildren, nine great grandchildren, and her friends.
At Karen’s request, no funeral services will be held, but we will celebrate her life as a family. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions will be made to a favorite charity.
