We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of John Lawrence Rausbeck (Larry) on December 21, 2024, at the age of 79. John passed peacefully at home, surrounded by the love of his children and grandchildren.
Born in Southeast Portland on July 27, 1945, John graduated from Franklin High School in 1963. In 1974, he married the love of his life, Claudia Beth Schlitt, and together they raised three children in Gresham, Oregon. Their love and devotion to each other were unwavering.
John’s life was defined by hard work, dedication, and success. He became a recognized figure in the car wash industry, founding ANC Vehicle Wash Systems Inc. and later JR’s Car Wash Sales. His greatest pride was providing for his family while creating a lasting legacy in the car wash industry. If you’ve ever driven through a car wash, chances are, John sold it. His influence on the industry is immeasurable, and he was widely known and admired. John played a key role in the development of countless car wash systems, and his work is reflected in the many businesses that continue to use his equipment today. To many, he was not only a pioneer but an icon and a mentor. When it came to the car wash business, John knew everyone—and everyone knew him.
In his "retirement," John split his time between Oregon and Arizona, enjoying family visits, golf, and the simple pleasures of life. He was a devoted father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and uncle, always making time for his loved ones. Known for his impeccable taste, sharp wit, and larger-than-life personality, John was often the center of attention, leaving a lasting impression wherever he went. While he could be frustrating at times, his charm, humor, and generosity made him impossible not to love.
John was preceded in death by his wife Claudia, who remained by his side through all of life’s ups and downs. He is survived by his children, Andy, Necia (Paul), and Clay (Tonia), his four grandchildren, Kaili, Gavin, Nyah, and Noah, as well as his two great-grandchildren, Paisley and Jackson.
John was generous and had a commitment to giving back. He supported numerous charitable organizations, including the Portland Rescue Mission, Meals on Wheels, and the Oregon Food Bank, among others. His kindness and willingness to help those in need will be remembered by all who were touched by his generosity.
A memorial open house, celebrating John’s life, will be held on March 16th from 12-4 p.m. at his home in Gresham, Oregon. For those wishing to pay their respects, friends and family are invited to a viewing on Thursday, December 26th, from 2:00p.m. at Bateman Carroll Funeral Home, located at 520 W Powell Rd, Gresham.
John will live on in the hearts of all who knew him and will be deeply missed by many. His memory will continue to inspire through the countless lives he touched.
