Jacob Daniel Rivas, 31 of Portland, passed away on August 14, 2023. He was born in Porterville, California, on October 29, 1991 to Jesse and Shannon Rivas. Jacob graduated from Sam Barlow High School and Oregon State University with a degree in political science.
Jacob worked as a political organizer for the Oregon Educators Association where he supported teachers across the state. During his career, he worked for an Oregon State Representative in Salem and on Oregon Ballot Measure 97. He was most proud of his work organizing the 2019 Red for Ed march on the state capitol in support of more funding for Oregon teachers and schools. He enjoyed hiking, kayaking, snowboarding, concerts and festivals, playing video games, and spending time with his rambunctious cat Ritz.
Jacob is survived by his parents Jesse and Shannon Rivas of Gresham, his siblings Rebekka Martinez of Portland, Melanie Rivas of Salem, Jeramy Rivas of Gresham, and his grandmother Suzi Colvin of Gresham.
A Celebration of Jacob's life will be held at 2 PM on Sunday September 17 at Bateman Carroll Funeral Home in Gresham, Oregon.
