Eleanor was born on September 23, 1940 in Spokane, Washington and was the daughter of Clarence and Ila (Kephart) Jacobs. She grew up in Gresham and attended West Gresham Grade School and Gresham High School.
On August 14, 1964 she married Charles Brokenshire in Stevenson, Washington. Eleanor worked as a homemaker and later moved to Portland where she resided until her death.
Eleanor had many hobbies and interests. She enjoyed gardening, spending time with family and friends and was a collector of frogs and spoons. She was also very talented and made porcelain dolls. She was kind and gentle; and genuine caring person who always put her family first. She will be dearly missed by all who knew her.
Eleanor is survived by her husband, Charles of Portland, children; Donna Hiestand of California, Wesley Gustaveson of Gresham, Anthony Brokenshire of Portland and Charles Brokenshire of Hawaii, mother; Ila Jacobs of Portland and her brothers; John Jacobs of Gresham and Ranz Johnson of Vancouver along with 13 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren. Her father; Clarence and her brother; Butch both preceded her in death.
A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, September 13, 2011 at 11:00 am at Bateman Carroll Funeral Home. Visitation will be on Monday, September 12, 2011 from 10:00 am -5:00 pm at Bateman Carroll Funeral Home. Interment will be at Willamette National Cemetery. Contributions may be made in memory of Eleanor to the Children’s Cancer Association Dreamcatcher Wish Program. Bateman Carroll Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.
