Darlene Gentry passed away on July 29th, 2017, in Yachats, Oregon. She was born on May 19th, 1930, in Toledo, Ohio, to her parents: Martin and Elvera Mae (Rickard) Lavender. She attended school in Ann Arbor, Michigan, where she grew up.
When Darlene was 16, she married the love of her life, James I. Gentry. They were married on October 12th, 1946, in Orange, Texas, where James was stationed at the time.
James and Darlene eventually moved to Oregon. They attended the Rockwood Church of God. Darlene loved to give of her time and talent, and she volunteered from 1989 until 2003 at the Salem Hospital, working in the gift shop and the supply unit.
Although Darlene was primarily a homemaker, she worked at the Portland Sanatorium Hospital near 60th and Belmont for 4 years. She was a nurse’s aide, and she enjoyed the time she spent there.
Darlene is described by her family as a voracious reader with a wealth of knowledge on a variety of subjects. She loved history, classical music, and doing crossword puzzles.
Darlene was preceded in death by her parents, her husband James, and her infant child, Glen “Alan”. She is survived by her children and their spouses, Martha (Dan), Jim (Kerry), and Jerry (Deb); as well as 7 grandchildren, and 10 great grandchildren. She was deeply loved and will be greatly missed.
A Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, August 3rd, 2017, at 10:00 am at Bateman Carroll Funeral Home, with a Committal Service immediately following at 11:30 am at Forest Lawn Cemetery in Gresham.
