Louise was the daughter of Thomas R. Dew and Berenice Davidson Dew. She was the sister of George and Gene Dew, who are both deceased, and Joanne Cumnock who is living in McAllen, Texas.
Louise grew up in Houston with the very best of family and friends. Her father designed and built the three homes she lived in until she graduated from Milby High School in the top 5% of her class, editor of the yearbook and she was voted Most Representative.
She attended the University of Texas for two years and then transferred to and graduated from the University of Houston to be closer to home, where she met her “ever loving husband”, Vernon. Vernon and Louise were married in her parent’s home in Houston, June 19, 1954.
They were very active in church, she taught and hosted Good News Clubs, taught Sunday School, women’s Bible studies, worked in the church office and always used her organizational skills to keep everyone’s life flowing in an orderly fashion. They decided early on that their home would be a center for friends, family, missionaries, college students, allied servicemen, international students and business associates from all over the world. 79 nationalities and countless wandering souls were welcomed in the Stewart home. They traveled throughout Central and South America, China, Eastern Europe and served as short term missionaries twice in Ecuador.
Vernon and Louise moved to Greenwood after retirement to move into his childhood home and take care of his sweet 92 year old mom, Ruth Joyce Stewart. She quickly became involved in church and community activities. Louise continued to teach Bible studies and host visitors from far and near. She was also very involved in the Greenwood Historical Society, graded Navigator Bible study tests taken by prisoners for seven years and was supportive of any need or care that might arise within her reach. They decided to move to Denton in December, 2016 to be closer to their children and grandchildren. Louise quickly became involved in her community and teach Bible studies as she shared her love for others and the Lord,
Louise was an adored wife and the mother of three, Roy, Ron and Ruth Amy, and the World’s Best Granny to eleven grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. Her loves included delving into God’s Word, reading, working in her yard, and she lived a life of volunteering. She was a natural mom, nurturing and serving us all. We all learned there is a particular way to do anything and the end result should always be one to take pride in and share with others. Her commitment to us all has left us with a legacy of the very best of memories and the knowledge that we can all make a difference in this world. She has touched countless souls near and far with her faithful, loving heart and her commitment to her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. She served her heavenly Father well through her gracious, generous and genuine love for others and her tremendous gift of hospitality. She was indeed a good and faithful servant who will be remembered with love and gratitude for generations to come.
