Helen Bates

Helen Lucille Cates, 81, known as Owaessa (Blue Bird) of Greenwood, Arkansas passed away Tuesday, February 2, 2016 in Greenwood. She was a cosmetologist and loved Jesus; which showed through her participation in the United Methodist Women of Greenwood.

A private memorial service was held Sunday, February 21 at Ava’s cabin in Greenwood. Arrangements are under the direction of McConnell Funeral home in Greenwood.

She is survived by her warrior, Fred Pittman; a son, David Cates of Monroe, Louisiana; two daughters, Ava Ortner of Greenwood and Karmen Hart of Bryant; three brothers, Roy Lee Cates of Dayton, Jeff Cates of Greenwood and Lee Roy Cates of Virginia; three sister, Pearl Rook, Billie Simmons both of Greenwood and Earlene Gentile of Monroe Louisiana; seven grandchildren, Trampus Charles Williams, John Trampus Hayes, Maegan Elaina Elizabeth Hart, Ashley, Whitney, Callie and Colton Cates; great grandchildren, Tomo Cub Williams, Charles Yu Williams, Elaina Jane Hayes, Liam Carson Hayes and several not mentioned; two great great grandchildren; and her dog, Sam.
