Harrison “Johnny” Johnson Jr. departed this world on the evening of November 30, 2024. He is survived by his loving wife Sue; his son, Steven and his wife, Julie; his son, Dan; his foster son, Charles Roberts and his wife, Latonia; brother, Floyd Johnson; grandchildren Erica, Christian, Jessica Starke, Kacie, Jessica Medero, Heather and Matthew and his great grandchildren, Colton, Eli, Lucas, Violet Rose, and Sawyer.
He is preceded in death by his beloved daughter, Melody; his parents, Harrison and Annie Mae Johnson; brother, Albert (Bo) Johnson and sisters, Ruby Davis and Doris Chandler.
Johnny retired from the Baton Rouge Police Department in 1994. He worked patrol and later worked as a detective in multiple divisions and eventually retired as a Lieutenant in charge of the evidence room. During his early years, he was assigned as a liaison protective officer for the family of Governor John McKeithen, and was instrumental in training some of the first black officers of the BRPD. He later worked at Eduardo Chahin's gunsmith shop.
He enjoyed the outdoors, hunting and fishing, all things related to firearms, and took great pride and satisfaction in yard work in his later years.
Of all the things he cared for in this world, he loved nothing more than he loved his family. His dedication to family extended to step children and foster children, and to any child needing help.
He spent several years coaching pee wee football in Watson and saw most of his team stick together through high school.
In accordance with Johnny's wishes, there will be no services or ceremony. He will be dearly missed by so many of us, but we are all better for having him as part of our lives.
Cremation is under the direction of McConnell Funeral Home of Greenwood.
