He is survived by his wife, Erma Jean Hicks, one son, Phil Hicks and wife, Teri, six grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Alvin (Bud) Hicks and Alta Marie Wisley Hicks, his son, Jeffrey Glen Hicks and a brother, Clifford S. Hicks.
Cyril was a veteran who served six years in the US Army during the Korean War. After he got out of the service, he worked as a machinist in Tulsa, OK until his brother convinced him to move back to Fort Smith and join him in his auto sales business. He always had a love for horses and started racing Quarter Horses at Blue Ribbon Downs. He soon worked his way into training and racing Thoroughbred Horses.
In 1977, he and his wife, Erma Jean moved to Benton, Louisiana and opened an auto dealership and then built a horse farm where they bred and trained horses for 41 years. They moved back to Bonanza Arkansas in 2019 where they enjoyed spending time with their children and grandchildren.
Funeral service will be 10 a.m., Monday, May 23 at McConnell Funeral Home Chapel in Greenwood with burial at Carolan Cemetery. Viewing and visitation will begin at 9 a.m. before the service.
