Erstfeld, Switzerland on December 29, 1929, Armin was the son of Joachim and Frieda Bissig Walker.
After graduating from trade school as a pastry chef in Aarau, he moved to countries vast and varied. From
Switzerland, Armin immigrated to Sweden, Venezuela and, ultimately, the United States, where he spread
root along the banks of the Mill Pond.
Armin is survived by his wife of 50 years, Margaret, and daughter, Sandra. He is also survived by two
sisters, two nieces, many nephews and countless friends. He was predeceased by his brothers, one nephew
and the beloved family dog, Morgan.
As a pastry chef and cook, Armin worked in many places including J.J. Cassone’s Bakery, The Clam Box,
Lou Singer’s Steakhouse, Stauffer Chemical Company in Westport, Nestlé in White Plains, St. Moritz
Bakery and The Greenwich Senior Center as head chef.
When not at work, Armin was an avid traveler, spending summer holidays in Cape Cod, seeing old friends
in Vermont, skiing in Switzerland, driving to Florida on whimsy and exploring a myriad of other worldly
places. Armin also returned to Europe often, visiting home and family.
Armin was an excellent jass card player, easily beating the competition, and a self-proclaimed mechanic,
dismantling and rebuilding endless VW Beetles. For years he swam with friends at Suny Purchase and
spent afternoons at the Cos Cob Library, watching the markets rise and fall. He loved his garden where he
grew tomatoes, grapes and flowers. He loved his garden most when he sat with friends and watched the sky
change color as the sun set over the water.
Armin may be best remembered for his potatoes with fried onions, grilled steaks and the rainbow of
summer zinnias that he planted each year. With these we welcome other great memories, fun stories and
