Steve was born on December 3, 1954 in Greenville to the late Bettye and James C. White. He graduated from The Bolles School in 1973 followed by the University of Richmond in 1977, where he was the photographer and yearbook editor, as well as the co-captain of the 1977 state championship swim team. Over the course of his life, Steve worked for the family’s manufacturing business, James C. White Company, alongside his mother, father, and siblings.
Everyone who knew Steve felt his big heart, selfless commitment to others, and his genuine love of life. He was kind, happy to just be there, living in the moment as everyone’s biggest cheerleader. Holidays were an especially cherished time, as were the preceding months spent planning every aspect of the perfect day. He was at his happiest by the coast on Fripp Island with pups and family, especially after his first granddaughter was born last year.
Steve is survived by his wife of 42 years, Sandy; his children: Courtney Lee Lewis and Chris White; as well as his granddaughter, Ava White. He is also survived by his two brothers, Tom and John White, and his two sisters, Ann Taylor and Bobbie Marshall.
A memorial service with a visitation to follow will be held on Saturday, July 1, 2023 at 11:00 am in the Carpenter Chapel at First Baptist of Greenville, 847 Cleveland St, Greenville.
The family requests that people make donations to the Greenville Humane Society and Fripp Island Community Center, in lieu of flowers.
The family would like to thank the medical team at Prisma Memorial and Sloan Kettering for their compassionate care during Steve’s battle with cancer.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.mackeycenturydrive.com for the White family.
