Roy was born September 22, 1921 in Campobello, South Carolina to Ollie Kirby Patterson and William Perry Patterson.
Roy was a member of Brushy Creek Baptist Church, Taylors SC and a member of the Men's III Sunday School Class at Brushy Creek Baptist.
Roy served in the United States Army, 25th Infantry Division in the Pacific Theater during World War II. He participated in the Battles of Guadalcanal; Central Pacific and Luzon. He was stationed at Scofield Barracks, Hawaii during the bombing of Pearl Harbor.
Roy loved gardening, fishing, planting tomato plants and he was know for his numerous Banana Tree plants.
Roy loved being with his family but especially spending time with grandchildren.
Roy is survived by; daughter Ann Fuller (Tom); and daughter Sue Keith; granddaughter Robin Ballentine ( Andy); granddaughter Laurie Minette (Chris); grandson Chad Fuller (Jamie); granddaughter Linsey Dudley (Sam);brother Jack Patterson. Mr. Patterson also leaves 10 great grandchildren; Tyler (Sarah), Will, Abby, Emily, Ellie, Jack, Jake, Grant, Sam and Grace to cherish his memory.
Roy was preceded in death by his wife Ola Eppley Patterson; father William Perry Patterson and mother Ollie Kirby Patterson; brother Floyd Patterson; brother Lloyd Patterson; brother Sam Patterson; brother Charles Patterson; brother John Patterson; sister Melvie Belue; sister Lillian High; sister Lyda Wilson; sister Georgia Patterson; sister Eva Lowe and sister Thelma Patterson; grandson Jason Keith.
A funeral service for Roy will be held Wednesday, April 10, 2019 at 11:00 AM at Mackey Funerals and Cremations at Woodlawn Memorial Park, 1 Pine Knoll Drive, Greenville, SC 29609. A burial with Military Honors will follow the funeral service in Woodlawn Memorial Park.
