Penny was raised in Huntington, WV, she enjoyed playing piano for the Huntington High School Glee Club and for her church, Jefferson Ave. Baptist Church. She was also an accomplished bowler, winning the WV State Championship in 1960.
Penny and her husband Gary were married in Huntington, WV at Jefferson Ave. Baptist Church in 1967. She received her B.A. from the Teacher’s College at Marshall University in 1968. Shortly afterwards, they moved to Greenville, SC, where she taught school and was the pianist and organist at Morningside Baptist Church.
Over the years, she was also the pianist and organist for First Baptist of Bishopville, SC and Grace Baptist Church in Sumter, SC. She also enjoyed playing the clarinet in the Sumter Community Band.
Although she was not one to socialize much, she was fiercely loving and supportive of her family and close friends. She never missed her children or grandchildren’s activities. She was always by her husband’s side, whether at home or traveling.
She is survived by her loving husband of 56 years, Gary Morris; daughter Julie (Evan) Baker of Greenville, SC; grandchildren Allie, Lauren and Molly Kate Baker of Greenville, SC, and Madelyn Morris, of Charlotte, NC.; her brothers Jim Ramsey (Sheila) of Dothan, AL, Bob Ramsey (Terri) of Huntington, WV, and her favorite cousin, Janet Gilkerson (Eddie) of Fayetteville, WV.
She is predeceased by her mother, father and beloved son Jeff Morris.
A graveside service for Penny will be held Friday, May 12, 2023 at 3:00 pm at Woodlawn Memorial Park, 1 Pine Knoll Drive, Greenville, SC 29609.
