She was born on June 14, 1934 in a small village near Canton China to her parents Mar H. Jung and Yip K. Jung.
She subsequently moved to Hong Kong and then immigrated to New Orleans as a teenager. While studying Industrial Design at the University of Illinois she met the love of her life Tiong Siew Tan and they were married in 1958. The couple had originally planned to move back to Tiong’s home in Singapore but decided to raise their family in New Orleans.
Nancy was very dedicated to raising their three children, Tina, Jeff and Lisa. She enjoyed cooking, sewing, gardening, and spending time with family and friends in the community at the Chinese Presbyterian Church. After her husband’s retirement, Nancy and Tiong moved to Greenville SC to be closer to her daughter Lisa’s family. She was incredibly caring and generous and she always enjoyed sharing a meal with others. She also took pleasure in traveling both near and far. One of her favorite memories was seeing the sun rise on Haleakala in Hawaii. She traveled abroad to Europe, China, Singapore, and Australia and enjoyed tasting the delicacies in Hong Kong.
Nancy is survived by her beloved husband Tiong Siew Tan; her sisters and their spouses: Lilly and Sherwood Hsieh of New York, Mamie and George Kimata of Oahu and Rosie and Robert Hoy of New Orleans; her children Tina of Chicago, Jeffrey (Christina) of San Mateo and Lisa of Greenville SC; her grandchildren Garrett and Lea Tan, Timothy and Brady Clayton; as well as many nephews and nieces.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Walter Jung and her sister Millie Jung.
Nancy made an impression on everyone she met with her kindness and gentle demeanor. She will be forever in our hearts.
Following a private service on August 31, 2023, she will be interred at Graceland East Memorial Park in Simpsonville, SC.
