James Thomas Bishop (Jimmy), 68, of Greenville, South Carolina, went to be with the Lord on May 26, 2024. Born in Greenville, the son of the late Colie Bishop and Mary Green Bishop, he was a graduate of Pickens High School and retired from AT&T. Jimmy was a simple man who loved God, fishing, and traveling the world with his wife. He was an active member of Renovation Church of Greenville, and former member and deacon of the Edge. Well known as “The Boat Man,” Jimmy was an excellent boat mechanic and the current owner of B+G Marine.
Left to cherish his memory is his beloved wife of 41 years, Cindy R Bishop; sister, Glenda B McAbee of Pelzer, two sons: Rodney (Sherry) and Joey; two daughters: Robin (Dean) and Amanda B. Foster and her husband & Children and a very special niece, Angel Thomason (Matt). Jimmy adored his grandchildren, Little Rodney, Hannah (Collin), Savannah (Jay), Belle, Kennedi, his little fishing buddy Hudson, Abby, and his great grandchildren, Madison, Mason, & Jacob. In addition to his parents he is predeceased by his brother Jackie and Larry Bishop and his sister Sharon B. McCormick.
Jimmy was a man of tremendous faith, and during his long battle with lung cancer, his faith never wavered. He was an inspiration to his family and friends. The family wants to extend a very special thank you to Dr. Richard O'Neil, who never gave up on Jimmy. The family asks that memorials be made to either Prisma Health Cancer Institute, 3 Butternut Drive, Suite B, Greenville, SC 29605, or Hospice of the Upstate (Rainey Hospice House) - 1835 Rogers Road, Anderson, SC 29021.
A visitation for Jimmy will be held Friday, May 31, 2024 from 12:30 PM to 1:30 PM at Renovation Church - Greenville, 506 Edwards Rd, Greenville, SC 29615 followed by a celebration of life at 1:45 PM.
A committal service will held Friday, May 31, 2024 at 3:00 PM in the Remembrance Chapel at Woodlawn Memorial Park, Wade Hampton Blvd, Greenville, SC 29609.
