He was born in Greenville County to the late Pal and Ivar McElrath McCarter.
Jack was a devoted member of Piedmont Presbyterian Church where he served as an Elder, member of the choir and Men’s Bible Class. His faithful service to his church will be greatly missed.
Surviving in addition to his wife of 67 years are son, J. Manley McCarter and wife, Judy; daughters, Mary Strom and Rhett Bush, Ivar Dell Poore and husband, Ed; grandchildren, Manley Christian, Amanda McCarter, and C J McCarter; six great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; and special furry friend, Sal.
In addition to his parents he was preceded by brother, D. P. McCarter and sister, Edith Talley.
Funeral service Wednesday, February 24, 2016 at Piedmont Presbyterian Church at 11 a.m.
The family will greet friends one hour prior to the service.
